Content: The objectives of this course are: 1) to review
the origins and underlying purposes of the American constitutional system;
2) to examine the major political institutions in the United States and
explore how these institutions influence our national politics; and 3)
to encourage you to think about the some fundamental questions that lie
beneath contemporary political debates. We will pay particular attention
in this course to how public policy gets decided in the American political
system, including both domestic and foreign policy issues.

Particulars:
Midterm examination, final and three position papers. Position
papers will involve researching a current issue in American politics,
then writing a brief essay (2-3 pp.) in which you take and defend a position
on that issue.

Content: This course will undertake a comprehensive and detailed
examination of one of the greatest books ever written, Aristotle's Nicomachean
Ethics. The guiding question of the book is the best way of
life for a human being, and as a result we too will take our bearings
by that question as Aristotle treats it.
